Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko visited the Tokyo National Museum on Friday to view the “Special Exhibition Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Okinawa’s Reversion to Japan RYUKYU,” sponsored by The Yomiuri Shimbun and others.
The exhibition displays 195 treasures and artifacts from the period of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which ruled Okinawa for centuries.
Crown Prince Akishino said, “I like to look at flower-and-bird paintings,” as he examined “Phoenix and Peonies,” a 17th-century artwork from the Qing Dynasty period in China. He asked about the animals and plants depicted in the paintings.
