A 31-tier pyramid made of hina dolls towers above shoppers in the Elumi Konosu shopping mall in Konosu, Saitama Prefecture, an area with a doll-making history that dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867).
About 1,600 traditional dolls in colorful costumes make up the pyramid, which stands about 7 meters high, catching the attention of shoppers and passersby alike. Set up ahead of the Hina Matsuri festival on March 3, the display is part of the 18th Konosu Surprising Hina Doll Festival, themed on “wishing for good health.” The display will last through March 5.
