The Defense Ministry announced Wednesday that three Russian Navy vessels, including a frigate, passed through the Tsushima Strait and entered the Sea of Japan.
According to the ministry, the three vessels were navigating in the contiguous zone, about 22 kilometers outside of Japan’s territorial waters, around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture on Monday.
The ministry also confirmed that a Russian Navy intelligence-gathering ship advanced westward through the contiguous zone of Tokyo’s Okinotorishima island on Wednesday.
In both cases, there was no intrusion into territorial waters.
