Kishida ‘running hard’ during first 100 days
13:07 JST, January 12, 2022
Tuesday marked the 100th day since Prime Minister Fumio Kishida assumed office. “I’ve been running so hard, I haven’t had time to pause for breath,” he said, recalling last year’s Liberal Democratic Party presidential election and House of Representatives election.
“I’ve made decisions and dealt with a mountain of issues, while responding expeditiously to the rapidly changing situation at home and abroad,” Kishida told reporters at the Prime Minister’s Office, citing the government’s response to the novel coronavirus and security issues.
In the evening, Kishida met with former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a Japanese restaurant in Tokyo, the first time he had dined with Abe since becoming prime minister. During the meeting — held at Kishida’s invitation — he is believed to have asked Abe for advice on handling the government.
