NES creator Uemura dies at 78

Masayuki Uemura, who played a key role in the development of the Nintendo Entertainment System and other Nintendo Co. games consoles, died Monday at the age of 78, according to Ritsumeikan University, where he worked as a visiting professor.
Uemura was involved in the development of the Family Computer System and Super Famicom — known outside Japan as Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Nintendo Entertainment System, respectively — and the Family Computer Disk System.
After taking up a professorship at Ritsumeikan University in 2004, he served in such posts as director of the Ritsumeikan Center for Game Studies and visiting professor at the College of Image Arts and Sciences.
