A former MUFG Bank female employee was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stealing gold bars worth about ¥260 million from safe deposit boxes at the bank.
Police believe that the 46-year-old woman cashed in the stolen gold bars at a pawn shop and used the money for her investments such as FX trading.
According to investigative sources, the former employee stole about 20 kilograms of gold bars which two male customers deposited at safe deposit boxes in the bank’s Nerima branch office in Nerima Ward, Tokyo. She was in charge of management of safe deposit boxes at that time.
