Liberal Democratic Party Vice President Taro Aso’s faction led the way Thursday in holding a political fundraising party for the upcoming House of Councillors election, ahead of the other five LDP factions.
The 49-member faction held the party at a Tokyo hotel. In an act of solidarity, the heads of other LDP factions, including Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, LDP Secretary General Toshimitsu Motegi and former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the party.
“We want to support the Kishida administration’s backbone at its core as a policy-making group,” Aso said.
Aso works closely with Kishida and Motegi, holding regular meetings with them to keep party management stable.
Kishida lauded Aso in a guest speech saying, “Aso has a way of drawing people in.”
