Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan President Yoshihiko Noda met Japan Innovation Party leader Nobuyuki Baba in person on Thursday morning to ask for cooperation with the prime minister election in the special Diet session scheduled for Nov. 11.
Noda said he asked Baba to write Noda’s name for the next prime minister during the meeting in the Diet building.
Baba did not clarify his attitude in response.
Baba spoke to reporters after the meeting, saying, “Even if [JIP lawmakers] write Mr. Noda’s name, we will not cooperate with [the CDPJ] unless there is a great cause or reform ideas [JIP can agree on].”
The two leaders are expected to continue discussions.
