Instead of bags of gifts, about 260 Santa Clauses took to an illuminated street near Tokyo Station bearing tongs and garbage bags during a pre-Christmas cleanup on Thursday evening. The Santas were mainly staff of companies in the nearby office district for the event set up by the Mitsubishi Estate Group and other entities. As they meticulously picked up trash with the tongs, they waved to passersby. “I was able to enjoy the scenery as I picked up garbage,” said one Kris Kringle.
