Toyota to further cut July vehicle output
17:05 JST, June 23, 2022
NAGOYA (Jiji Press) — Leading Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it will additionally reduce vehicle output in July, due chiefly to parts supply constraints.
The move will lower Toyota’s July global vehicle production to about 800,000 units — 250,000 at home and 550,000 abroad — down by around 50,000 units from its projection as of the beginning of the year.
Parts production has been delayed at a supplier in Shanghai due to COVID-19 infections among its workers, Toyota officials said.
In July, Toyota will halt three production lines at its Motomachi plant in the city of Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, and one line at the Takaoka plant in the same city for 10 more days.
The halt will affect production of the bZ4X SUV, the automaker’s first mass-produced electric vehicle model, and others.
