Shida, Matsuyama Win Bronze in Women’s Badminton Doubles; Malaysian Pair Beaten in Straight Sets (Update1)

PARIS — Japan’s Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama took bronze after defeating Malaysia’s Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan 2-0 in the bronze medal match of women’s badminton doubles at Paris Olympics on Saturday.

Shida and Matsuyama took control of the match from the beginning, winning the first game 21-11, and continued to dominate the second game 21-11.

Japan’s women’s doubles team won silver at the 2012 London Games and gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games but no medals at the Tokyo Games.
