Sardines schooling through underwater galaxy at Japan aquarium
December 10, 2021
NAGOYA — A school of about 10,000 sardines can be observed in an underwater show called “sardine galaxy,” scheduled to start Saturday at Minamichita Beach Land, an aquarium in Mihama, Aichi Prefecture.
The sardines, caught in the Seto Inland Sea, will be guided by fishing lights and food during the show. Visitors will be able to see their sudden movements as the fish react to rays and sharks swimming in the same tank. The theme of “galaxy” is inspired by such astronomical phenomena as comets.
“I hope visitors will enjoy [seeing] the beautiful schools of fish,” an aquarist said. “And I hope it becomes a wonderful winter memory.”
The show is set to continue through Feb. 27, 2022.
