Emperor, Empress visit Meiji Jingu shrine

The Emperor and the Empress visited Meiji Jingu shrine in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, on Thursday, ahead of the 110th anniversary of Emperor Meiji’s death on July 30.
At about 9:40 a.m., the Emperor, clad in a morning coat and wearing a face mask, walked through the shrine’s Minami-Shinmon gate to the front of the honden main pavilion, where he offered tamagushi sacred tree branches and bowed. The Empress, dressed in white attire and wearing a mask, made a similar offering shortly afterward.
