NARA — The head of the National Police Agency team investigating the security arrangements at the time of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s fatal shooting has visited the crime scene in Nara.
Yasuhiro Tsuyuki, the deputy commissioner general of the NPA, on Monday examined the site where Abe was giving a campaign speech in front of Yamato-Saidaiji Station when he was shot, and reviewed the actions taken by suspect Tetsuya Yamagami.
The site “was open in all directions, making it difficult to protect [Abe] here, but our job is to provide protection amid the conditions we are given,” Tsuyuki, 58, told reporters afterward. “We will review our security operations.”
