KUMAMOTO — A grouping of food stalls where customers can enjoy unique local dishes has opened in Kumamoto City, attracting a large number of customers every day.
At the Kumamoto Food Stall Village, which opened June 3, 17 restaurants line both sides of the street for about 50 meters. Visitors can try not only horse meat dishes, a specialty of Kumamoto, but also local chicken, oden and even Italian cuisine.
There is also a vending machine for Kuma Shochu, a specialty distilled spirit of the prefecture’s Hitoyoshi Kuma region. Visitors can sample various kinds of shochu produced by 27 makers for ¥100 per cup.
The stall village was developed by a steering committee comprising a Kagoshima-based liquor wholesaler, a local shopping district association and other establishments. The village is open from noon to 11:30 p.m.
