Resembling a sinuous brush stroke across the white snow, the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, a popular mountain sightseeing itinerary linking Toyama and Nagano prefectures, is seen from above on Wednesday. According to the route’s managing company, Tateyama Kurobe Kanko Co. in Toyama, snow is being cleared from about 23 kilometers of the Toyama Prefecture part of the route, from Bijodaira at an altitude of 977 meters to Murodo at 2,450 meters, ahead of the spring tourist season. Snow around Murodo was 7.6 meters deep, two meters more than last year. On Wednesday, workers were clearing snow at an altitude of about 2,300 meters. They aim to open the route on April 15.
