Hiroshima Schoolchildren Grow 1,400 Flowers for G7 Summit Display

Planters of pink and white petunias spelling out “G7 Hiroshima” stand in the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima to welcome the visit of leaders of Group of Seven industrialized nations for their upcoming summit meeting. The Citizens Council for the Hiroshima Summit set up the 2.6-meter-tall, 21.9-meter-long display in late March, and about 1,400 petunia plants grown by students from 27 elementary schools in the city were planted there to bloom in time with the meeting.
