Tokyo tops 4,000 new infections for 3rd consecutive day

Tokyo confirmed 4,172 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus on Sunday, exceeding 4,000 for the third consecutive day.
There were five seriously ill COVID-19 patients in the capital, up one from Saturday.
Osaka Prefecture logged a record 3,760 new cases on the day, setting a record for the second consecutive day.
The single-day figure in Hyogo Prefecture also hit a new record of 1,343 cases, exceeding the previous high of 1,191 reached on Saturday.
Okinawa Prefecture confirmed 1,226 new cases, down from the 1,533 reported a week ago.
