46 new cases in Tokyo; infections top 30 for 8th straight day

The Tokyo metropolitan government announced Tuesday that it had confirmed 46 new cases of coronavirus infection in the capital, up by eight from a week ago and exceeding 30 for the eighth consecutive day.
According to the metropolitan government, the seven-day moving average of new cases was 39.7, up 47% from 27 in the preceding period. There were two seriously ill patients, unchanged from the previous day.
One man in his 60s was confirmed to have died.
The Aichi prefectural government announced Tuesday that two men in their 20s were infected with the omicron variant of the novel coronavirus. Both men have mild symptoms and have been hospitalized at a medical institution in the prefecture.
They are believed to have been infected in their community, as they did not travel abroad. Their route of infection is unknown, and they have had no contact with each other. Both had been vaccinated twice.
This brings to four the total number of infections with the omicron variant in Aichi Prefecture.
