Prime Minister Fumio Kishida spoke with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman by phone on Thursday evening. They agreed that they would cooperate on stabilizing the international crude oil market in the wake of the surge of crude oil prices amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Kishida also confirmed with the crown prince that there will be minister-level discussions between Japan and Saudi Arabia on increasing production of crude oil.
“We had a deep discussion,” Kishida told reporters after the telephone conversation. “I felt a positive attitude [from the Saudi Arabian side].”
