Japan’s tally tops 60,000

The daily national total of new novel coronavirus infections hit a record high on Tuesday, with the day’s figure exceeding 60,000, according to data being compiled by The Yomiuri Shimbun.
Tokyo confirmed a record 12,813 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus Tuesday, surpassing the 11,227 reported Saturday.
Osaka Prefecture logged a record 8,612 new cases, topping the 7,375 cases reported Saturday.
Aichi Prefecture confirmed a record 4,120 new cases, surpassing 4,000 for the first time and rewriting the daily record for the first time in three days.
Fukuoka Prefecture said it is expected to log a record 3,389 new cases, topping 3,000 for the first time.
Hyogo Prefecture saw a record 3,360 new cases, topping 3,000 for the first time and exceeding its previous record of 2,942 reported Friday.
Gifu Prefecture logged a record 816 new cases, surpassing 800 for the first time and exceeding the 577 cases on Friday.
Oita Prefecture confirmed a record 390 new cases, topping its previous record of 332 reported Saturday.
