CHIBA — Harvesting of Gohyakugawa, a super-early type of rice, has begun in Isumi, Chiba Prefecture. The rice, a variant of the popular Koshihikari rice strain, was planted in about 50 hectares of rice paddies by Nittano Farm around March 20. The company started harvesting Thursday, a few months earlier than typical harvest dates.
