With the national election less than a week away, workers inside a greenhouse in Saitama prepare festoons of moth orchids that are commonly used in victory celebrations and other occasions. Kurousu Orchid operates 28 greenhouses in which it grows about 160,000 pots of white and pink moth orchids that are shaped by the staff. “The hot weather meant having to take extra care, but the flowers turned out large and beautiful,” said a senior executive. The orchids will be shipped in time for the upcoming House of Councilors election on July 10.
