Agriculture minister Shinjiro Koizumi, a candidate in the Liberal Democratic Party presidential election, told reporters on Wednesday that if he becomes LDP president, “Prioritizing policy [discussions] over coordinating single-seat constituency candidates would be a very rational approach” regarding possible coalition talks with opposition parties.

Koizumi expressed agreement with remarks made by Fumitake Fujita, co-leader of the Japan Innovation Party, who has advocated prioritizing policy agreements in potential coalition negotiations.
