2 Men including Court Officer Stabbed with Knife at Tokyo Apartment, 1 Dead; Attacked When Visiting for Enforcement Order (UPDATE 1)

A court officer and a guarantor company employee who visited an apartment room for eviction enforcement procedures were stabbed in the chest and back with a knife by a male resident on the street in front of the apartment in Suginami Ward, Tokyo, around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Both victims were men in their 60s. The employee was confirmed dead shortly after being transported to the hospital.

The man who stabbed them was apprehended nearby and arrested on the spot on suspicion of attempted murder.

The man is believed to have sprayed a substance and set it alight, causing walls and floors inside the room to burn.

The Takaido Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is investigating further details.
