Japan’s Nikkei Stock Sees Highest Year-End Close Ever; Index Logs Annual Gain of 6430.37 Points

The Nikkei average closed at 39,894.54 on Monday, down 386.62 from Friday’s close and logging its highest level for any final day of trading for the year.
Previously, the highest final-day close was in 1989, when the index ended trading at 38,915.87.
This year, the Nikkei average saw an annual gain of 6430.37 points.
