Temperature in Tochigi Pref. hits 41 C; Heatstroke Warnings Issued for Large Swath of Japan (UPDATE 1)

The mercury in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture, hit 41.0 C at 2 p.m. on Monday, as temperatures rise across Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
After Sano, the highest temperature was in Tenryu Ward in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, at 40.2 C.
This is the second time this summer a temperature of 40 C or more has been recorded in Japan, with the first 40.0 C day recorded in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka, on July 7.
The agency and the Environment Ministry have issued heatstroke warnings for almost all areas in Japan, urging people to take precautions to avoid heatstroke, such as staying hydrated.
