2 Police Officers Missing in Shinjo, Yamagata Pref.; Police Car Heading to Scene of Rescue Call due to Heavy Rain Swept Away (UPDATE 1)

Two police officers in their 20s are missing after their police car was swept away near a bridge over a tributary of the Mogami River in Shinjo, Yamagata Prefecture, Thursday night during heavy rainfall. The police car was found upside down in a nearby paddy field on Friday morning, but the two were nowhere to be found, and fire department personnel are searching for them.
According to the Yamagata Prefectural Police, a male civilian called 110 at around 11:25 p.m. Thursday to report that a car had been swept away near this bridge, and it is believed that the police car was swept away. At the time, the road near the bridge was flooded and a landslide was reported nearby. The man who reported it was also missing for a while, but was later found and is said to be safe.
