Kerosene Smell Delays Tokaido Shinkansen Bullet Train for 20 Minutes
19:48 JST, February 24, 2024
A kerosene smell forced the delay of the Tokaido Shinkansen Hikari 509 bound for Okayama from Tokyo at around noon on Saturday, according to Central Japan Railway Co.
The company said that the smell was caused by a small amount of kerosene leaked from a stove that a passenger brought in. No one complained of feeling unwell.
The complaints about the smell occurred when the bullet train was running between Shizuoka and Hamamatsu stations. The train was delayed for about 20 minutes at Hamamatsu Station, where kerosene was wiped off and safety checks were carried out.
