Heavy Snow Forecast in Kanto-Koshin Regions; Alert-Level Snowfall Possible Even in Central Tokyo (Update 1)
17:59 JST, (updated at 19:50 JST, February 4)
This is due to the impact of a low-pressure system moving from the southern coast of Honshu to the east of Japan. The agency said that, if temperatures are lower than expected, there is a possibility of alert-level heavy snowfall even on plains.
According to the agency, the expected amount of snowfall in the 24 hours up to 6 p.m. on Monday is estimated at 15 centimeters in the Koshin region, 10 centimeters in the mountains of northern Kanto, Hakone, the Tama region and the Chichibu region. Eight centimeters of snowfall is expected on the plains of northern Kanto, and 4 centimeters on the plains of southern Kanto.
The agency warns people to be careful about traffic disruptions due to snow accumulation and frozen roads, as well as the collapse of plastic greenhouses.
