700 Stranded Passengers Forced to Spend Night on Shinkansen Following Noto Peninsula Earthquake

About 700 passengers on the Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen lines, which had suspended operations due to the massive earthquakes that hit the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture and other areas on Monday, were forced to spend the night on the trains at five stations along the lines, including Tokyo, Nagano and Joetsu Myoko, according to East Japan Railway Co. (JR East).
JR staff handed out water, snacks and items to keep passengers warm on the Shinkansen.
All passengers disembarked the trains by around 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
