Princess Kako addressed the Japanese Breast Cancer Society during a ceremony in Yokohama marking its 30th anniversary on Wednesday.

The younger daughter of the crown prince and princess, expressing how deeply she cares for people with breast cancer, said she felt encouraged by progress in diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

The event gave her an opportunity to learn about the importance of self-examinations and health checks for early detection of the disease, she said.

“I hope accurate knowledge will spread further,” Princess Kako said.
