Russian naval ship passes through Tsushima Strait

A Russian Navy intelligence-gathering ship was spotted navigating through the Tsushima Strait in the Kyushu region toward the Sea of Japan, the Defense Ministry announced Monday.
On July 6, the ship sailed in Japan’s contiguous zone off Okinotorishima, a remote atoll 1,700 kilometers south of Tokyo, and sailed northward between Okinawa Island and Miyakojima Island in Okinawa Prefecture on Saturday, according to the ministry.
The ministry also confirmed that a Chinese Navy frigate made a round trip between Okinawa Prefecture’s Yonagunijima Island and Taiwan from Thursday to Sunday.
The Russian and Chinese vessels did not enter Japan’s territorial waters.
