TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. on Sunday said that automated teller machine and other services affected by a system glitch at the bank have been restored.
Sumitomo Mitsui will contact customers whose transactions were affected by the system failure, the bank said, apologizing for the inconvenience caused by the incident. The affected services returned to normal around 10 a.m. (1 a.m. GMT).
On Saturday, connections between its core banking and ATM systems became unstable from around 5:35 p.m., according to the subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. .
Because of the problem, it became difficult to execute transactions through Sumitomo Mitsui’s ATMs using other banks’ cash cards and ATMs at convenience stores using Sumitomo Mitsui’s cash cards.
The bank said the failure resulted from faulty system settings.
