Tokyo, April 9 —Japan’s key Nikkei 225 stock average plunged over 1,300 points at one point Wednesday, as market turmoil continued on fears over the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs and retaliatory measures against them.
The Nikkei sank 1,304.37 points, or 3.95 pct, from the previous day to hit 31,708.21 at 9:29 a.m.
Tokyo stocks met broad selling after all three key U.S. stock market gauges finished lower Tuesday, following White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s announcement that Washington plans to further hike tariffs on Chinese imports, for a cumulative levy of 104 pct on the Asian country.
