Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Wednesday that rescue efforts were engaged in “a race against time,” as more than 40 hours had passed since the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
The government will increase the number of SDF personnel in the disaster-hit area from 1,000 to 2,000 and more than double the number of rescue dogs, Kishida said at a press conference.
“We have received reports that there are still many people under collapsed buildings, waiting to be rescued,” he said. “We will do our utmost to rescue people and save lives.”
