The Emperor and Empress attended a ceremony in Tokyo to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-Japan Fulbright exchange program, an initiative through which students and researchers from the United States and Japan can participate in international exchanges in each country.
The program has had more than 9,500 alumni since its establishment in 1952.
The Emperor reflected on his experience of studying abroad in his speech at the ceremony in Chiyoda Ward Friday, describing it as “a great opportunity to look back at my own country.” The Emperor also said he hoped for further development of the exchange program.
