Princess Kako, the second daughter of Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, participated remotely in a ceremony for the fiscal 2021 National Urban Greening Fair on Wednesday.
“I hope the circle of greening promotion will expand further from Kumamoto and spread beyond generations and regions,” the princess said in a video message for the ceremony. The fair is currently underway in Kumamoto.
A video was also played of the princess planting a sapling of a chiharazakura cherry blossom tree on March 4 at the Akasaka Imperial Residence, where she lives.
The annual fair was canceled for fiscal 2020 due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
