Japan will relax its novel coronavirus entry restrictions from June 1, increasing the cap on daily international arrivals to 20,000 from the current 10,000, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno announced Friday.
People traveling from low-risk countries will also be exempted from taking a COVID-19 test and quarantining upon arrival, which has currently been in place for international arrivals.
“Countries and regions accounting for about 80% of the people entering the country are likely to be exempted from the testing and self-isolation requirements upon arrival,” Matsuno said at a press conference Friday afternoon.
The list of exempt countries and regions will be announced next week.
