Illuminated paper umbrellas were put on display Wednesday on a walkway in the Otemachi district of Tokyo, prompting many passersby to photograph the scene with their smartphones.
The event is a joint undertaking by companies and others based in the Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yurakucho districts. This year, the annual event, which has been running since 2018, has expanded the area in which the umbrellas are exhibited.
About 30 colorful brollies — including one representing The Japan News — will light up the walking area between the Yomiuri Shimbun’s Tokyo headquarters and the neighboring Tokyo Sankei Building from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the three-day event that runs through Friday.
