Liberal Democratic Party heavyweight Taro Kono tweeted “Shame on you” in response to a post by the Russian Embassy in Japan regarding the invasion of Ukraine.
The embassy stated that “an information war is being waged on social media” in a tweet posted on Feb. 28, claiming Russian forces are being blamed for Ukrainian airstrikes in reports.
Kono, the chairperson of the LDP Public Relations Headquarters, strongly denounced the claim, telling the press in Tokyo on Wednesday, “We need to alert people about fake news because it’s clear that the Russian side is attempting to unilaterally change the status quo by force.”
