Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba congratulated Republican nominee Donald Trump on Wednesday night, after Trump declared victory in the U.S. presidential election.
“I would like to make efforts to get in touch with Mr. Trump as soon as possible,” Ishiba told reporters at the Prime Minister’s Office.
He also expressed his desire to realize a summit meeting with the new U.S. president soon.
“I hope to work closely with President-elect Trump to take the U.S.-Japan alliance and relationship to new heights,” he added.
