Qatar street hosts nations’ flags ahead of World Cup

DOHA — People walk under a canopy of national flag pennants of countries participating in the upcoming 2022 World Cup in a shopping district in a Doha suburb. The pennants have been strung up to delight the eyes of locals and international soccer fans ahead of the opening of the tournament on Sunday. The shopping district is located in Lusail, a planned city developed for the World Cup, which lies 20 kilometers north of central Doha. Lusail is also home to the stadium for the World Cup final, which has a seating capacity of 80,000. The city is becoming a new national symbol of Qatar, a country undergoing rapid development.
