Thousands of blossoming cherry trees cover the slopes of an ancient burial mound in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. Since 1984, locals have planted Someiyoshino, yaezakura and other types of cherry trees on the slopes of the Koboyama Kofun burial mound, which dates to around the end of the 3rd century. “I was able to take beautiful pictures of the cherry blossoms and the city from the top of the mound,” said a visitor from Azumino in the prefecture.
