Straw hats get an airing under the winter sun

The Yomiuri Shimbun

Straw hats are left to dry in the cold air outside the workshop of Tanaka Boshi-ten in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture. This process is meant to remove moisture and tighten the hats’ weave, making them more durable. About 400 hats were laid out under the winter sun Friday, at the hat shop established in 1880.
