Staffers work on hina dolls ahead of the Girl’s Festival on March 3, at the workshop of Matsuyoshi Ningyou Co. in Higashi-Osaka, Osaka Prefecture. In addition to regular hina dolls, Matsuyoshi Ningyou is making dolls dressed in a striped costume for the Year of the Tiger, in costumes with colorful fabrics from Italy and France, and with crystal glass ornaments. “Amid the coronavirus disaster, people have fewer opportunities to go out, so more people are buying hina dolls to get into the season or ward off bad luck,” President Michiko Koide said.
