A man hangs up persimmons Tuesday at the Inaka Michi no Eki Yashimaya store in Marumori, Miyagi Prefecture, where they will dry for about 1½ months to remove their astringency. Temperatures fell below zero more often than usual in Marumori in the spring, reducing the persimmon crop. As a result, the town is expected to only produce about 10% of its usual output of dried persimmons.
