Japanese Woman Supports Single Mothers in Rwanda

Rwanda realized remarkable reconstruction after the 1994 genocide. Yet, nearly half of its population of about 14 million still live in poverty.

Mio Yamada from Osaka Prefecture founded KISEKI, a social enterprise, in Rwandan capital Kigali and provides childcare support and tailoring training to single mothers.

KISEKI also accepts interns from Japan and elsewhere. Yamada aims to provide a platform for the interns and Rwandan mothers to “support each other and learn from each other.”
