U.S. Election: Japan PM Ishiba Congratulates Trump by Phone; Ishiba Says Trump is‘Very Friendly,’ ‘Can Hold Frank Talks’

Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump over the phone during their first phone meeting on Thursday morning. The two confirmed that they will work closely together to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance and agreed to hold a bilateral face-to-face meeting as soon as possible.
“I felt he was very friendly,” Ishiba told reporters at the Prime Minister’s Office after the phone call. “I got the impression that he is someone who can hold frank talks.”
