Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump over the phone during their first phone meeting on Thursday morning. The two confirmed that they will work closely together to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance and agreed to hold a bilateral face-to-face meeting as soon as possible.
