KITAKYUSHU — A fire broke out near Tanga Market in Kitakyushu on Wednesday night, burning an area of about 2,000 square meters.
The blaze was brought under control at about 7 p.m. on Thursday, some 22 hours after starting around 8:55 p.m. the previous day.
According to the city’s fire department and Kokurakita Police Station, a call was received from a restaurant near the market saying tempura oil had caught fire.
The conflagration spread to multiple buildings, including the market. No one was injured.
